Fruit consumption

Tropical fruits are a great choice for first foods due to their rich nutrient content and natural enzymes that aid digestion. Some fruits that are suitable for babies include:

  • papaya: Contains the enzyme papain, which helps break down proteins and aids digestion.
  • mango: Rich in vitamins A and C, fiber, and enzymes that support digestive health.
  • pineapple: Contains bromelain, an enzyme that helps digest proteins.
  • banana: Easy to digest, rich in potassium and fiber, and gentle on a baby’s stomach.
  • avocado: Packed with healthy fats, fiber, and vitamins, and easy to mash for babies.
  • coconut: Coconut water and coconut milk are hydrating and nutritious, though coconut flesh should be introduced later due to its fibrous texture.

Babies typically lose their iron stores from 6 months onwards, combining iron rich foods with vitamin C will help with absorption.

Serve fruits in finger size slices or fork mash/puree for spoon-fed babies.
